A jury deliberating over the fate of a former Benton Harbor Schools superintendent is now hearing from the defense’s witnesses.
Prosecutors started their case against Dr. Leonard Seawood at about 2 p.m. Tuesday. Dr. Seawood is charged with embezzling the district out of over $45,000 for illegitimate and unused vacation days.
Before the prosecution rested at around noon Wednesday, ABC 57 reports jurors heard from a former school board president and a former business administrator. The former said she remembered signing a vacation request form, not a vacation sell-back form. The latter explained the payroll paperwork process.
In total, the prosecution called on eight witnesses resting and the lunch recess that followed.
