Sparks flew on a South Shore train bound for South Bend, and interrupted service late Sunday night.
The South Shore says an overhead wire issue was to blame, with those sparks being accompanied by a small explosion.
An official told WSBT that they’re unsure what caused the problem, and won’t know more until they are able to perform a complete diagnostic check of the car in question.
As many as 25 passengers were in the car at the time, and no one was injured. They were able to board buses and were taken to their destinations.
Train 102 between Carroll Avenue and Ogden Dunes was impacted but all other trains were running normally on the line Monday morning.
Here’s video that one passenger shared on social media, which shows passengers getting off the train and smoke coming off the top of it:
My train exploded on my way back to school. The wire carrying 150k volts snapped and slammed the train – there was fire and sparks and smoke engulfing my cabin as we all sprinted to the front of the train. I can only thank God I’m still here tonight. Thought i would share. pic.twitter.com/VvJRKvi4mU
