South Bend police have arrested a suspect in a stabbing.

It happened shortly after 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of Carroll Street, just south of Ivy Tech Community College.

The suspect is identified as Dwayne Newsom. The victim is a volunteer at Broadway Christian Church. She suffered a potentially life-threatening injury.

Doctors credit the quick response of officers, medics and hospital staff with saving her life.
