The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating an apparent murder-suicide in far southwest South Bend.

Officers went to a home on Myrtle Road, near State Road 23 and West Ireland Road, on a welfare check. Officers found 81-year-old Philip Wilmes and 80-year-old Barbara Wilmes dead inside the home.

Officers are still investigating, but believe it was a murder-suicide. An autopsy on the husband and wife duo is scheduled for Monday in Fort Wayne.
