Former Indiana school superintendent Glenda Ritz’s consulting firm has been hired by the South Bend Community School Corporation.

The school board voted unanimously this week to approve a $40,000 flat fee contract to be paid to Advancing Public Schools LLC.

The South Bend Tribune reports the purpose of the contract is to study services for 10 South Bend primary and intermediate schools. That includes current literacy teaching practices as well as meetings with each of the leadership teams at the schools.

Ritz was the state’s top schools chief from 2013 to 2017. The Democrat often clashed with then Governor Mike Pence over policy. She lost her re-election bid to Republican Jennifer McCormick.
