Pedestrian struck, killed by hit-and-run driver in Benton Township

A pedestrian was killed in a hit and run collision on Paw Paw Road.

Benton Township Police were sent to the 1100 block of Paw Paw early Friday morning, March 3, on reports of a man lying in the road, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The victim, Exavier Hassel, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some video evidence was found showing Hassel was walking south on Paw Paw Road when he fell into a lane of traffic, ABC 57 reported.

While lying in the road, he was struck by a vehicle.. and the driver didn’t stop. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Benton Township Police Department at 269-925-1135 or Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP.
