Volunteers with the Whitley County Humane Society rescued more than a dozen dogs from cages inside a horse trailer near Churubusco according to ABC 21 in Fort Wayne.

The Whitley County Humane Society states “You don’t put puppies into cat cages and then stuff them in a horse trailer and then cover them with tarp.”  “Frankly they were happy to get out of those cages.  When our staff was out there they actually came to them because they provided water.  They were very, very dehydrated.”

According to Carol Flowers, shelter volunteer and board member, they have been worried about these dogs for months after multiple calls from concerned residents.  “Every single dog was covered in feces, and urine, and mud.”

The Whitley County Humane Society, State Animal Welfare Department and local police we all working together to rescue these dogs on Monday.
