Mishawaka Police dealing with Douglas Road crashes in center turn lane

A major stretch of road in Mishawaka is down to one lane for construction, and police has a message for you if you drive along it.

Mishawaka Police say people have been using the center turn lane on Douglas Road between State Road 23 and Grape Road as an actual main driving lane.

That’s caused crashes and further backups on top of the ones that are already causing headaches there.

Officer Jeffery Price also suggested avoiding Douglas altogether along that stretch and use either Edison or S.R. 23. If you have to drive on Douglas, though, Price warns that you may be ticketed if you’re caught using the center lane for travel.
