One person killed in crash in Cass County

A 32-year-old man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in Cass County on Friday, April 13.

It was around 10:30 p.m. that sheriff’s deputies were called to Kessington Road in Mason Township where they found the wreckage.

Gary May, of New Haven, was traveling northbound on Kessington when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the road and overturn several times in a field, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

May was ejected. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Safety belts were not used, intoxicants and speed may have been a factor, according to the sheriff’s department.

Two Niles residents are recovering from injuries after a crash on Gumwood Road near Bertrand Street in Milton Township.

The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13.

A 55-year-old man from Niles was traveling southbound when a vehicle, driven by a 72-year-old woman from Niles, turned in front of him, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The force of the collision caused man’s vehicle to travel off the road and into a tree. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment.
