West side South Bend shooting was robbery gone wrong, according to police

A shooting in South Bend Thursday was a robbery gone wrong.

South Bend police say two men tried to rob another man on North Brookfield near Linden shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

The victim tried to defend himself by pulling out a gun, but was shot as he did. He was able to return fire, hitting one of the suspects. That suspect checked himself in to Lakeland Hospital in Niles.

Both the victim and suspect had non life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating.
