The Elkhart Police Department is offering sign-on bonuses to veteran officers, part of an effort to bring in new recruits.
ABC 57 reports that the EPD claims to be the only law enforcement agency in the area to offer this incentive.
An officer must be certified and successfully complete all phases of the Department’s hiring process. The bonuses range from $3,000 to $7,500, based on the level of experience.
The Elkhart police currently have 131 of the 136 officers they’re budgeted for.
