Homes in short supply during Elkhart County’s RV boom

The RV boom has brought success to Elkhart County, but as a result…a housing shortage has created a problem for homebuilders.

Too much work. There’s a housing shortage in the area, and homebuilders have a lot of impending work on the books right now.

Kim McGibbon of the Builders Association of Elkhart County tells ABC 57 that the average wait time for builders to even think of starting a new house is September or October. Meanwhile, existing houses are snatched up quickly when they go on the market, leaving would-be homeowners no other choice but to plan to build.

Additionally, home builders report a lack of employees to help keep up with the flood of demand.

The planned Parade of Homes event next month is already seeing a number of people looking to buy before the event even has a chance to begin.
