There’s a new Special Victims Unit commander in town.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday that Kelly Todd will be promoted to replace retiring Commander Brian Young. She has spent the last two years as the Assistant Commander of the SVU.

Prior to that, she led the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department’s Investigative Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Task Force. She also spent time with the Notre Dame Security Police Department to cap her 18 year career.

County Prosecutor Ken Cotter says Todd’s “previous work and outloook” make her a good fit.

Todd will take over for the retiring Young on June 1st.
