“Sneezing fit” while talking to Siri leads to semi rollover in northwest Indiana

Traffic was snarled on I-65 in Lake County Sunday night after a tanker rolled over due to the driver having a “sneezing fit.”

The crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday on I-65 near the Crown Point exit. The driver, 55-year-old Julie Duncan of Canton, Michigan, told Indiana State Police she was trying to talk to Siri on her phone when she started having a sneezing fit.

Duncan then noticed she was about to hit construction barrels, so she swerved to avoid them, causing her tanker filled with cleaning solution to shift and roll over.

Because the cleaning solution needed to be unloaded to another another tanker before the semi could be upright again, the right lane of I-65 was closed for about eight hours.

Duncan was ticketed for Unsafe Lane Movement.
