St. Joseph County FACT investigating car vs. motorcycle crash in South Bend

A collision near the intersection of South Michigan and East Ireland in South Bend is being investigated by St. Joseph County’s Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. Saturday. Traffic is moving slowly in the busy intersection on the south side of South Bend.

South Bend Police tells ABC 57 a large group of motorcyclists were at the red light northbound on Michigan Street. A motorcycle failed to stop at the intersection and caused a collision with a white car going eastbound.

Officers are now investigating to see if the motorcycle had mechanical issues prior to the crash.

Three people were taken to the hospital as a result. The driver of the motorcycle reportedly has a severe leg injury, while the motorcycle passenger had non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the white car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
