Contract negotiations over leaf pick up in St. Joseph County continue

The company that picked up residents’ leaves in St. Joseph County last year may be the same to pick them up again this year.

Greenworld is proposing a $1.6 million contract to continue picking up leaves in the county.

That raised the eyebrows of St. Joseph County Council members as the cost for last season’s pickup cost the county was just $926,000.

Greenworld has been criticized for missing pickups since a burn ban in the county started in 2012.

Company officials say they want more money to upgrade their 90s-era equipment.

County officials told Greenworld to come back to the table with a lower offer.
