Two crashes shut down the westbound Indiana Toll Road in LaPorte County

A pair of crashes shut down all lanes of the westbound Indiana Toll Road Wednesday morning.

Indiana State Police on the Toll Road say a semi traveling on 421 drove down an embankment onto the westbound lanes of the Toll Road, and struck a pickup truck pulling a trailer. This happened in Michigan City near Mile Marker 39. Westbound lanes were shut down for a few hours to clear the scene and clean up a large amount of oil and diesel fuel on the highway. One person suffered non-life-threaening injuries in the crash.

A second crash, believed to have been related to the traffic standstill, involved 3 semis at Mile Marker 52. There were no injuries reported but a large quantity of paint was spilled onto the westbound Toll Road as a result of the wreck.
