St. Joseph County police say credit card chips are being copied in latest scheme

Police in St. Joseph County are warning that scammers are copying chip cards to access bank accounts.

An ATM surveillance camera has captured the image of a man using a copied debit card. Scammers have become more sophisticated and advanced in how they copy cards and override even the latest security features.

WSBT reports that individuals have used these copied ATM cards in the last three weeks to access bank accounts. Elkhart and LaPorte Counties have reported the problem as well, believed to originate with card skimmers.

Officials are uncertain how many Commercial Bank and Federal Credit Union accounts have been impacted, but suggest that you check your accounts.

If you notice unusual activity, you should let your bank know at once.
