Warsaw man sentenced after girlfriend dies of heroin overdose

A Warsaw man whose girlfriend died of a heroin overdose has been sentenced on weapons and drug related charges in federal court.

26-year-old Darin Hurd was given 248 months in prison after using heroin with the mother of his child back in September of 2017.

The woman died of a heroin overdoze while at home with their toddler son, who then tested positive for having heroin metabolite in his system.

While investigating her death, Hurd gave officers permission to search the home.

Officers found heroin and a 9 MM gun in his home during the search.

Hurd told investigators he began dealing heroin in January 2017. According to court documents, Hurd admitted to distributing approximately 50 grams of heroin until September 2017.
