Edwardsburg man killed in one of two motorcycle crashes on SR 23

The person killed when a motorcyclist collided with a pick-up truck in Granger has been identified as an Edwardsburg man. It happened around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, on State Road 23 at Chestnut Road.

Louis Gerald Lampert, 48, rear-ended a pick-up truck driven by a 21-year-old man, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office.

State Road 23 was closed for several hours while the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team conducted the investigation.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Lampert was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

A second motorcycle crash happened on Tuesday about 4 miles away at State Road 23 and 30th Street. The person operating that motorcycle was seriously injured and transported to the hospital, but no other details have been released. The time of that crash is not known.
