A Middlebury man has been found guilty of the rape and strangulation of an acquaintance.

It was back in 2015 when Ryan Baxter and the acquaintance from high school reconnected on social media, which led to them meeting up, according to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.

Baxter met the victim in their apartment and made physical advances which led into forced sexual intercourse and an attempted strangulation, the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office reported.

In court, Baxter insisted the intercourse was consensual.

Baxter faces as many as 40 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Oct. 5.
