Residents evacuate safely during fire at Laurenz Place Apartments

Three people were able to escape major harm during a fire at  Laurenz Place Apartments in South Bend.

Fire crews were called to the apartment complex formerly known as Jefferson Park Apartments around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sep. 22, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Once on scene, crews got the fire under control in less than half-an-hour, ABC 57 reported.

A pet cat perished in the blaze. One person suffered cuts.

The Red Cross is assisting residents who are temporarily without a place to live.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
