Leesburg woman hits Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department vehicle

A Leesburg woman is in facing charges after investigators say she hit a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department SUV with her Jeep and failed to stop afterward.

Elayne Zalonis, 54,was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of at least .15 and failure to stop after the incident on Sunday, Oct. 7.

She reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, drove through a yard, and then headed east on CR 450 North in Warsaw.

An officer then saw Zalonis swerving across both lanes of traffic. That’s when she crossed the center line and her Jeep hit the rear left corner of the marked patrol vehicle before she continued heading east.

Damage was estimated as up to $10,000. No injuries were reported.
