Scammer tries to trick South Bend Police officer with Social Security Number scam

(Photo supplied/ABC 57)

The South Bend Police are warning people about a new scam that attempted to fool one of their own.

An officer received a phone call claiming to be from the Social Security Administration that warned him that his Social Security Number had been suspended.

Investigators say it’s important to remember that Social Security Numbers can never be suspended and nobody should ever provide the number to anyone over the phone, or confirm the number if asked.
