Winter Weather Advisory in effect as snow showers, freezing rain mix hit Michiana

(Photo supplied/ABC 57)

Get set for a wintry mess that will move into the region on Thursday, Nov. 15, as a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Indiana portion of the 95.3 MNC listening are until 4 p.m. EST.

Freezing rain, sleet and snow are possible, making roads extremely slick.

The mix will spread from the south to the north.

Expect the snow showers to impact the Toll Road area by 6 a.m. so drivers should allow an extra 10 minutes travel time, just to be safe.

Snow changes to wintry mix for some by midday, but the winter weather should fade away by the afternoon.

Highs barely get above freezing this afternoon with snow totals around 1”-3” possible south of the Toll Road.

Slightly warmer temps and milder weather returns Friday with another chance of a wintry mix Saturday.

Sunshine returns Friday, but another system is quick to pass through on Saturday, bringing another chance of snow.

Michiana will experience a bit of a warm-up heading towards Thanksgiving.

Your ABC 57 First Warning Neighborhood Weather Center Forecast:

Thursday: Cloudy with snow and a wintry mix. High of 34.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of AM L.E. snow showers. High of 40.

Saturday: A chance of snow before noon, then a chance of rain between noon and 5 p.m., then a chance of snow after 5 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 36.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 37.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.
If you plan on traveling southward on Thursday, be sure to plan for slick conditions. This includes U.S. 31, I-70, I-74 and I-65. Upwards of 1-3″ of snow and ice is expected in the Indianapolis area with even more possible near Evansville. The big “winner” in terms of snow with this system will be southern Illinois and eastern Missouri where 3-6″ could fall by Thursday evening. Nothing like that is expected in Michiana, but we won’t dodge the system completely.
