As a number of Indiana families struggle to keep their homes warm in the winter with rising utility bills, one state lawmaker in reminding low-income Hoosiers about state programs designed to keep the heat on, and more.
Representative Dale DeVon says Indiana 2-1-1 is a hotline saving all of the states 92 counties and helps point people to resources specific to their needs. By simply calling 2-1-1, Hoosiers can get assistance with food insecurity, access to healthcare, veterans services, career services and even emergency assistance for abusive relationships and suicidal thoughts.
Those feeling a financial strain this winter may be eligible for grants, homeowner loans, transitional housing or help for the elderly living alone.
