LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP) — A state senator plans sponsoring a bill aimed at improving the safety of Indiana’s school buses following the recent deaths of four students.
Sen. Randy Head tells the Pharos-Tribune he plans to file a school bus safety bill for the session starting in early January. The Logansport Republican says the bill’s provisions will include allowing school districts to petition for slower speed limits near bus stops.
Three siblings were killed in Head’s district in October when they were struck by a pickup truck while crossing a highway to board their school bus near Rochester.
Head says the “utter horror” of that accident spurred him to pursue the legislation.
A fourth student died in Head’s district in November when a truck rear-ended a school bus on U.S. 31 in Marshall County.

I can not help to leave an answer to the school bus problem. Why do we have County or City Police if they do not follow a bus not all the time but during the 2 or 3 hour pickup & go home? When was the last time you saw that. It does not happen all the time but 1 car a day would slow down that problem. All the cars or pickups that do pass School Bus get a ticket and then a double hit is when these people that pass the school bus sees some one else being stopped may not do it the next time. 2nd comment on School Bus drivers pay them for a days work, not minimum wage. then maybe you will have enough drivers. This is aimed at the School Boards.
