Police chase ends with crash into a South Bend business

A police chase ended with a vehicle crashing into a South Bend business.

The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

The building struck by the vehicle is the home of the LKQ Pick Your Part, in the 1600 block of South Lafayette Boulevard. South Bend Police say the vehicle crashed into the entrance of the business.

The crash happened after police responded to a report of a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car near the Dew Drop Inn.

After the collision the driver reportedly attempted to flee the scene on foot before he was caught and taken to the hospital.

There’s no word on the extent of the driver’s injuries.
