The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning. The warning includes the entire 95.3 MNC listening area and continues through 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, though counties in the southern portion of the listening area will be under a warning until 7 p.m.
WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST /6 PM CST/ THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Periods of light to moderate snow will continue into this afternoon. Storm total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches expected, with locally higher amounts possible for areas which received heavy snow last night across southern Lower Michigan. Northeast winds of 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts will create considerable blowing and drifting snow. * WHERE...Portions of northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. * WHEN...Until 4 PM EST /3 PM CST/ this afternoon. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will likely become difficult. Strong winds will result in blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibilities. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Moderate to heavy snow is likely during the mid-morning on Saturday, Jan. 19, but will taper down in the afternoon before wrapping up this evening. Gusts of 30-35 mph will produce whiteout conditions at times today so regardless of totals, travel will be very difficult. Totals still around 3-7” for most of us, with the best chance for 6+” for the northern tip of Michiana.
Afterwards, temps drop like a rock into the low teens for highs with lows near or below zero Sunday and Monday. The pattern stays active as well with PM lake effect possible tomorrow and another round of rain/snow Tuesday into Wednesday.
