Metro Homicide investigating after man found dead inside car on Liston Street

A 21-year-old man was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in South Bend.

Police were sent to the 1300 block of Liston Street just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, for a welfare check.

On arrival they found a car with the engine running in an alley and a man, dead, inside the vehicle.

The victim has been identified as Ruben James Waters. dead.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Officer released the following information about the case:

St. Joseph County –This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., South Bend Police Department officers responded to a call for a welfare check. Officers discovered a deceased 22 year old male with apparent gunshot wounds in a car in the alley behind 1309 W. Washington, South Bend.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) was activated, per protocol, to handle the investigation. At this time, this remains an active and ongoing investigation. At the issuance of this release, no individuals have been arrested in connection with this investigation. The name of the deceased individual is being withheld pending family notification.

An autopsy is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, February 26th, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
