Chase involving stolen car from Hobart ends in crash near McDonalds in New Buffalo Township

A pursuit involving Hobart Police and LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies on I-94 came to a sudden end just north of the state lane.

That’s because the suspect and the stolen vehicle police say he was driving crashed into a sign in front of the McDonald’s restaurant at Exit 1 in New Buffalo Township.

The suspect then took off on foot.

The pursuit happened around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5.

A short time after the collision, Grand Beach Police found the suspect standing inside the car was at Whittaker and Clay Streets in New Buffalo.

Mark Jenkins, 33, of Blue Island Illinois was taken to the Berrien County Jail and faces a slew of charges.
