Man arrested after shooting at car with 2-year-old in the backseat

A Gary man was arrested after police say he shot at a car that had a two year old child inside.

The shooting happened around 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. It began at a trailer park in Lake Station and continued on to Ripley Street and then, I-80/94 when the suspect smiled at the victim, and then shot at her Toyota several times, according to Indiana State Police.

As the woman approached I-65, she realized her tire was going flat and had to pull over. The Dodge Charger continued westbound at a high rate of speed, but the woman was able to give a license plate number, and a description of the driver, a male black with a silver grill teeth.

A state police trooper made contact with the victim and verified that her car had been hit at least twice by bullets. The victim, a man and the victim’s two-year old child, who was in the back seat, were not injured.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle at 25th and Grant Streets in Gary. They also found two guns in the car. The suspect, Davonte Biddings, 25, of Gary, was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness and possession of marijuana.

Further charges may be pending.
