13-year-old boy, mother fatally shot in Gary

GARY, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a 13-year-old boy and his 35-year-old mother were fatally shot at their northwestern Indiana home and police are trying to identify two men spotted nearby.

The Gary Police Department says officers responded Saturday night to a report of shots fired and found two people who had been shot inside the home.

They were pronounced dead on the scene and the Lake County coroner’s office on Monday identified them as Lavell Edmond and his mother Temia Haywood. They coroner’s office classified the deaths as homicides.

Police on Sunday released surveillance images showing two men near the home and urged anyone with information about the men or the slayings to contact police.
