South Bend mayoral candidate pleads not guilty to theft charge

South Bend mayoral candidate Will Smith was in court for a pre-trial Thursday afternoon in Miami County.

Smith pleaded not guilty to a level-six felony theft charge. The affidavit says a 2019 Forest River Travel Trailer worth more than 18 thousand dollars was taken from RV Dynasty in Miami County on the morning of January 27th.

ABC 57 asked Smith after the hearing if he was still running for mayor, and he said “no comment.”

His next hearing will be May 16th.
