INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana’s health commissioner says a newly launched texting service aims to connect Hoosier women with services and information that can promote a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

The Indiana State Department of Health says the texting service that’s part of its MOMS Helpline will help expand the program’s reach and boost its mission to reduce Indiana’s infant mortality rate.

Women who use the texting service can get referrals through a text reply containing a site link that will integrate with their smartphone navigation and web browser, providing instant access to services.

State Health Commissioner Kris Box says the texting service “is another tool in our fight to reduce Indiana’s infant mortality rate.”

MOMS Helpline specialists are certified insurance navigators who can enroll callers in health insurance programs, including Medicaid.
