It’s Primary Day in Indiana, Special Election Day in Michigan

The race for Democratic candidate for Mayor of South Bend is one of the biggest contests on this Primary Election day in Michiana.

South Bend’s race for Democratic candidate for Mayor is considered by many people to be the biggest race of the day.

But South Bend isn’t the only city where a Mayoral candidate race is underway. In Elkhart, voters will deccide whether Democrats Ashley-Boling-Molyneaux or Rod Roberson will face former Republican Mayor Dave Miller.

Also on the ballot is a referendum for Elkhart Schools that would address funding for academic and educational programs, manage class sizes, school safety initiatives and teachers pay. If passed it would mean about $13 a month extra on monthly taxes for a residential homE worth around $100,000.

Polls are open until 6 tonight. If you still don’t know where to vote or whom to vote for, you can check out www.vote411.org. Be sure to bring a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID when you stop to vote.

It’s also Special Election Day in Michigan. Some residents in Berrien County will vote for or against a few proposals and referendums.

The Royalton Township Fire Department is looking to introduce a millage for fire equipment and to renew a public welfare millage that funds the operations of the fire department. ABC 57 News reports that the $124,000 annual budget pays for 20 firefighters and five trucks, but some of the fire trucks are almost 25 years old and in need of replacement.
