Man charged with drug, driving counts after crashing into two stores

A man is in custody after allegedly using drugs and crashing into two stores in downtown LaPorte while behind the wheel.

Michael Murphy, 35, was being held on charges of possession of drugs and paraphernalia, and of operating a vehicle without a license, according to WSBT.

He was said to be driving in the 700 block of Lincolnway around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, after allegedly using heroin and cocaine.

That’s when he lost control of the vehicle and went up on the sidewalk before crashing into two different businesses., the police report stated.

He claimed his tires locked up.

Police say a number of syringes were recovered from the scene as well as a spoon. He admitted to using drugs during the investigation.
