Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy dragged during suspect pursuit

A Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy was dragged for a short distance during a traffic stop while investigating the theft of a travel trailer. It happened late Thursday night, May 23, on May Street, near Adamsville Road in Edwardsburg.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office released the following information about the incident:

On 05/23/2019 at 2318 deputies responded to a theft of a travel trailer, in progress, on Savage Rd, Marcellus Township, Cass County. A short time later Deputies were able to locate one of the suspects driving on May Street, near Adamsville road in Edwardsburg.

With the assistance of Edwardsburg/Ontwa Police Department and the vehicle was stopped.

While questioning the suspect on the traffic stop he fled in his vehicle dragging one Deputy for a short distance.

Deputies’ pursued the vehicle into Elkhart Indiana where Elkhart City became the primary units and continued the pursuit. Elkhart City stopped the vehicle on the 24000 block of Lynn St. and arrested the suspect from the pursuit.

Cass County Deputies  went to an address in the 24000 block of May St. where the suspect vehicle had left from a residence and the stolen trailer that was taken from Savage road in Marcellus Township was recovered.

Deputies were able to locate other stolen property taken from various locations in Indiana, as well as more stolen items from an additional residence on Savage Rd. in Marcellus.

Cass County Deputies arrested two subjects at this location for outstanding warrants and charges  related to this incident.

This case remains under investigation and names of suspects arrested will be released, pending their arraignment.
