May is Motorcycle Awareness Month

The month of May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

Statistics for 2018 in Indiana are reinforcing the importance of using a helmet, getting licensed, and driving safely.

Indiana’s Criminal Justice Institute works with motorcycle groups around the state to promote safety.

Data shows less than 2 percent of crashes in the state involve a motorcycle, but they make up nearly 13 percent of all traffic deaths in the state.

In Michigan, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has unveiled the “Look Twice Save A Life” campaign this week, reminding drivers that motorcycles aren’t always easy to see at first glance.

Benson says 84 percent of all motorcycle-involved crashes happen on city streets.
