A South Bend firefighter was taken to the hospital after fighting a fire at a home in the 400 block of East Haney Avenue.

The blaze happened around 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

The firefighter was later released.

Several cats inside the two-story home died in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
