Two people were injured in a shooting Friday morning in South Bend’s Near Northwest neighborhood.

Police say it happened around 4:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of North College Street. One man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, and a second man suffered an injury that medical staff determined was not caused by gunfire. Both victims were taken to the hospital.

A house was also hit by gunfire, but none of its occupants were injured.

Police are searching for a suspect but a description has not been made available.

There are reports of an argument involving the 21 year-old victim before the shots were fired.

The South Bend Police Department released the following information about the shooting:

South Bend Police detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in the 1100 block of N. College around 4:45 Friday morning. Officers were initially dispatched to the area on a ShotSpotter Activation.

When officers arrived, they found a 21 year old male with non-life threatening wounds to the arm. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Initially officers believed there was a second victim with a graze wound to the leg. It was later determined by medical staff this injury was not caused by gunfire.

Through the initial investigation, officers learned there was a verbal argument between the victim and an unknown person or persons before shots were fired. A nearby home, occupied by adults and children, was also hit by gunfire. No injuries reported.

This case remains under investigation by the South Bend Police Investigative Bureau.
