Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad and other city officials held a press conference in Lansing Tuesday, as they made an appeal to Governor Whitmer regarding the state’s proposal to close Benton Harbor High School.

The mayor called their presence in Lansing “a clarion call.” for not just his city’s schools, but schools across the state.

Monday, a proposal was submitted by the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education in an attempt to keep the high school open and strengthen the district as a whole. The Board meets with the Governor on Wednesday.
