Elkhart commissioners decide on condos for former Alicks site

Commissioners in Elkhart have reached a decision about what they’d like to do with the former Alicks Drug property in Elkhart.

WSBT reports that the competition between two competing bids came to an end Tuesday night. It’s been decided that the commission would like to see luxury condos occupy the space, which is a prime piece of real estate on the riverfront along Jackson Boulevard.

The Elkhart Rowing Club had been hoping a boathouse would be built there instead. The plan would build 21 high-end apartments and condos with boat slips at the site.

The Redevelopment Commission approved the plan, but it’s not finalized yet.
