Board reaches decision for the future of Benton Harbor High School

Friday was the deadline for a decision, and the Benton Harbor School Board met to approve or reject the proposal to close the high school.

They voted NOT to accept the state’s plan to close the high school.

School administrators said in a meeting Friday afternoon that they hope the state will consider a plan that includes a majority-minority high school in the city. That plan would also work to improve graduation rates in the district, meet guidelines when designing curriculum, and address financial and academic shortfalls.

The State of Michigan is expected to respond Friday afternoon.
