21 arrested in federal drug crackdown in Fort Wayne area

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Twenty-one people mostly from the Fort Wayne area have been arrested on federal drug charges after the FBI and police executed eight search warrants in the region.

Special Agent in Charge Grant Mendenhall of the FBI’s Indianapolis Division said Wednesday’s arrests follow an investigation lasting more than a year and led by the Fort Wayne FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force, which includes the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police.

Eight indictments name 17 Fort Wayne residents, three from Columbia City and one from Indianapolis on charges including distribution of fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and marijuana.

U.S. Attorney Thomas L. Kirsch says the arrests have “made a serious impact on the distribution of narcotics in the greater Fort Wayne area.”
