A vintage airplane from a bygone era is making an appearance at the Elkhart Municipal Airport this week.

A 1928 Ford Tri-Motor plane will make a stopover in Elkhart on Thursday, June 27, and stay through the weekend.

The aircraft is one of a handful that are still in service, still taking to the skies 91 years after it rolled off the production line.

The Tri-Motor plane, once the workhorse of several carriers in the early days of avaiation, was made famous again in the modern era when one of them made an appearance in the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984.
