Some changes are being made to Elkhart’s Fat Oil and Grease regulations.

Mayor Tim Neese says they’ve had feedback from local food service establishments that were considered when reworking the so-called FOG regulations, in order to make them more “business-friendly.”

The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce helped create an outreach program to gather feedback on several potential updates.

Elkhart’s FOG ordinance was originally passed in 2015 in an effort to reduce the direct discharge of pollutants, such as fats, oils, and grease, into the City’s sewer system. Those pollutants can lead to blockages and degradation of the overall sewage collection system.
