A man who stabbed a Saint Mary’s College student last year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with two years suspended.

Prosecutors say Dwayne Newsom stabbed the woman in the stomach at Broadway Christian Church, where she was volunteering, back in January of 2018.

The woman survived thanks to quick action from first responders. Newsom was charged with aggravated battery and attempted murder.

He ended up pleading guilty, but mentally ill, to aggravated battery.
