Double shooting in Dowagiac ruled murder-suicide

UPDATE: Dowagiac Police have released more information about the husband and wife found shot to death in Dowagiac.

Officers were called on Saturday, Aug. 3, to the home in the 300 block of McOmber Street where they found Jason Clark, 41, with a self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound.

His wife, Tonia Clark, 49, was suffering from a gunshot wound and died at the hospital.

Police have also revealed there was a child in the home at the time of the shooting. He was not injured.

Police have determined the shooting were a murder-suicide after reviewing evidence gathered and statements from witnesses.

ORIGINAL STORY: A husband and wife were killed in a double shooting in Dowagiac.

Police received a 911 call around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, about a woman who was allgedly shot by her husband in the 300 block of McOmber Street.

Dowagiac Police officers along with Pokagon Tribal officers and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.

Officers found the body of a 41-year-old man who was shot. They also found a 49-year-old woman who had also been shot.

She was taken to the to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

It does not appear that anyone else was involved and there is no risk or concerns for the safety of the community, according to Dowagiac Police.

This case remains under investigation.
