St. Joseph County Police looking for a new home

The St. Joseph County Police Department is looking for a new place to call home.

Sheriff Bill Redman says their current facility on Lincoln Way West is no longer sufficient for their needs. The headquarters is just 7800 square feet and is leased from the South Bend International Airport.

Redman hopes to renovate a County property on Lathrop that’s nearly three times as big. The move would also allow the road patrol and detective bureau to share a facility. Currently they have separate buildings.

The St. Joseph County Council and Board of County Commissioners are considering the plan, which could cost 2 point 7 million dollars.
